Investigate the technologies for multi-platform radio broadcasting - UNIT 14

 BBC Radio 4

We need technology to run Radio stations, all radio stations have identical equipment. Underneath is a setup of BBC Radio4:

The diagram above is what a radio station looks like the diagram includes the labelled devices. The devices above are what they need to run a radio station for any content they are making. This setup can be used for a podcast radio station or music recording. For instance, a computer is a very common peace of equipment in any radio station. Computers come in different forms (size and shapes) they have the ability to perform different functions. The headset helps the person have a better audio understanding and blocks out other sound. Microphones are used to gather the audio it's an output speaker this helps the audience understand the audio better it's also making the audio clearer.

Digital Cart wall:

Digital cart wall is an audio player that is easy to use and includes multiple pages of rapid audio buttons that are ready to be played as the audio played is saved onto the digital cartwall and is already loaded. This enables easy access to be played back as audio files are saved and can be played easily which is useful for pupils as it is an organised and files are kept safely.

Play list:

Playlists are usually made with 50 songs or more which are replayed through the week. Playlist gets streamed usually also on broadcasting platforms and different types of apps any app that is a music app that allows you to download music and listen to it. For example, sportify and apple music and SoundCloud and more. Playlists are made to have the music organised and in one system so it's easy to use and access with genre favourite songs and mixed playlist that you can make or listen to playlist that are already made. Different playlists are made for radio stations to use throughout the week.

Digital Play out system:

Digital playout is a system that includes storage, editing, video, TS capture, broadcasting and management functions. These functions are crucial since it helps operate the program. Digital playout is mostly used for broadcasting and audio-visual content and is close to broadcast playout systems of radio stations. Broadcasting uses digital playout since it is a software.

Platforms for listening - UNIT 14

The audience can access all the different variety of radios. BBC radio 4 can be accessed with different devices this makes it easy for the audience to use. Some examples of devices that can be used are:

  • Phones
  • Laptop

Electromagnetic waves are used to complete Analogue broadcast. The electromagnetic waves are used to transmit the signal information. Radio waves are used for Analogue broadcast different frequencies are used to transmit the data sending. The types of radios that are used for Analogue broadcast are AM and FM.
